Governance

Each year the congregation elects those of our membership identified for their gifts of faith, wisdom and leadership to serve as elders who sit on the Governing Board and lead us in the ways of God.  Fifteen elders (elected in July to 3-year terms, 5 elected each year) gather on the fourth Tuesday each month to prayerfully discern God’s direction for our church.

Elected elders are ordained and installed each September.  The Governing Board Chair is the lay leader of the congregation and guides the work of the Governing Board.  Along with serving on the Governing Board, each elder leads a particular area of ministry within the church including Finance, Nominating, Personnel, Properties and Stewardship Committees, and Boards of Christian Education, Congregational Life, Outreach, Lay Ministries, Diaconate and Worship & the Arts.

The Governing Board is guided by the values of our faith as given in Scripture as well as by the FCC Constitution and Governing Board By-laws.  The congregation commits itself to supporting their elders with their prayers and to abiding by their Governing Board’s decisions.  Governing Board meetings are open to all church members unless the Board enters into Executive Session for matters of a sensitive nature.
