Better to give than receive!
We are flipping the traditional Cookie Exchange upside down this year! Congregational Connections and Diaconate Boards are joining forces to bring Joy and Christmas Cookies to some of our members who could use a little extra dose of Christmas Cheer. But we need YOUR help!
Sign up to BAKE or help HERE
Please bake 4 dozen (or more) of your favorite Christmas Cookie.
Drop your donation on Saturday, December 12 between 3-4 pm at the Community House.
A team of folks will safely gather on Sunday, December 13 to create special cookie boxes, which will be delivered that afternoon to our older members, homebound, and others who may be missing a bit of the holiday spirit! If you have questions, please contact Betsy Hanzelin at email@example.com or 708-704-7096.
The Board of Faith in Action is planning a series of giving opportunities this season, called "Operation Under the Tree". We hope to launch initiatives to invite our congregation and community to share our blessings and generously respond to the needs of our community partners, Bethel Family Center and Jones Community Center.
Project #3: Angel Tree
We have joined with our Community Partner, Bethel Family Resource Center in Chicago Heights, to serve those who were previously housed at PADS and were displaced during the Pandemic. They are housed in a local hotel and could use some basic assistance, clothing, and food at this time.
Faith in Action encourages you to adopt individual(s) or families this December, and purchase items from their wish list. Their request are for basic needs and simple items for their children. This is also a great opportunity to join with other families or friends to adopt a whole family together!
Sign up HERE! More information will be sent after you sign up. All gifts should be dropped off at FCC Community House on Saturday, December 19 between 10 am - noon. (Pick up can be arranged on request). All items will be delivered on Christmas Eve morning, along with a basket of special breakfast treats for each family.
Bethel is also supplying meals for these families, and we are collecting funds to assist those efforts. Monetary donations can be made to HERE. Please indicate "Angel Tree" on your donation.
Project #2: The Gift of Learning
Our second project was a drive for school supplies requested from Jones Center, to provide white boards, markers and erasers to every student, as well as comfortable seating for children during reading time and breaks (they sit on benches for school). Amazon ran out of bean bags, and we completed this project in November!
Project #1: Headphones for Jones
Our goal was to purchase 40 set, and thanks to everyone's quick action and generosity, we met our goal in no time!
Oh what fun!

Christmas Story Time with Leslie Maxie
Each Wednesday in December, we will gather to hear a favorite Christmas Story read by members of our staff. All ages are encouraged to join for a story, and an opportunity to talk about your favorite Christmas Book. Our first reader will be Leslie Maxie, Director of Children’s Ministries, lover of children’s books, whose lively storytelling is sure to delight young and old! She will be reading A Coronavirus Christmas.

Cookies & Cheer with Jamie Ford & Dallas Collins
Sweets are a favorite part of Christmas … whether its preparing for a Cookie Exchange, hosting a party, or setting out a plate for Santa on Christmas Eve. You are invited to bring your favorite Christmas cookie or dessert recipe to share with the group. We would love to hear why they are meaningful, especially this year. Send your recipe in advance or afterwards to Jamie at firstname.lastname@example.org to include in our FCC favorites. Dallas will show us how to jazz up some store-bought goodies to save time while still spreading holiday joy!
Monday, December 7 @ 7pm
Our Favorite Things with Judy Jensen & Betsy Hanzelin
This year is challenging in part because we will miss being in homes and seeing the beautiful Christmas decorations of our friends and family. So let’s give each other a little glimpse inside our homes and hearts! As you are decorating for Christmas, set aside of your favorite Nativity Set or Christmas Ornaments to share with others. All will be welcome, whether it is finest crystal or clumsily executed popsicle sticks held together with twine. We look forward to seeing each other’s treasures and sharing stories of Christmas past!
