Martin Luther King, Jr. PADS Day of Service
Monday, January 20
from 6 am - 5 pm in Fellowship Hall
Faith is taking that first step, even when you don't see the whole staircase.
~Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr~
Faith is even greater when you are homeless and may not see a staircase at all. On January 20, we will honor the steps of our homeless community members and create an atmosphere of Dr. King’s hope. On Sunday nights, FCC hosts a men’s PADS homeless shelter. The next morning, the men filter into our community and many utilize the libraries to stay warm & safe. Since the libraries are closed on MLK Day, we keep our shelter open an additional 12 hours that day and celebrate our guests!
The day looks like this...
6 am Early Riser Lounge Upstairs: Coffee, donuts & newspapers to
greet our men who will not be sleeping in, while not disturbing the sleepers.
Free Haircuts Before Lunch
8:30 am Hot Breakfast
9:30 am Speaker Session
10:30 am Boot/Shoe box distribution/Free Clothing Store/Leisure & Game Time/Social Services/
Health Checks/Job Interviews/Mentoring/Listening
12 pm Entertainment
1 pm Hot Lunch
2 pm Movie Time & Free Concession Stand
4 pm Free time
5 pm Walk over or get shuttled over to Faith Lutheran PADS site
This will be our 6th PADS MLK Day and it is truly a beautiful community effort. It unfolds as people share their gifts & talents with the men. What STEP will you bring to the day?
