Lent at FCC
Lent is a 40 day season (not including Sundays) that provides space for self-examination, reflection, and spiritual preparation. It is an invitation for deep inner work, as well as communal conversation and repentance. May the following opportunities for worship, prayer, and study with FCC help create a meaningful experience for you this Lent.

SPIRITUAL FORMATION OPPORTUNITIES DURING LENT

and reflection specifically during Lent. All are welcome!
Lenten Study
Entering the Passion of Jesus: A Beginner’s Guide to Holy Week by Dr. Amy-Jill Levine
Sundays after worship in the Family Room (February 26 – April 2) or
Wednesdays at 10 am in Genesis Room (March 1 – April 5)
Pastor Dawnn Brumfield, Facilitator
What are you willing to risk? The days leading up to Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection were filled with risk for him and others. Using the text as a backdrop, Pastor Dawnn will lead us in a six-week study that will capture us right where we are. Together we will discuss the risks we take in everyday life, reading through the ethical and spiritual questions that are raised in the bible and challenging ourselves to enter the passion of Jesus through the eyes of others.
Ongoing Book Study
Sundays after worship in the Parlor (February 26, March 5, 19 & 26)
Grateful: the Transformative Power of Giving Thanks by Diana Butler Bass.
Trina Hayes, Facilitator
The book offers ideas for bridging the gap between our desire to be grateful and our ability to behave gratefully. Booklist describes it as “simultaneously a meditation and celebration.” The class will continue on February 26, and March 5, 19 and 26, April 2, 23, 30, and May 7.
Book Club
Sunday, March 12 after worship in the Parlor
The Other Dr. Gilmer: Two Men, a Murder, and an Unlikely Fight for Justice
by Benjamin Gilmer
Trina Hayes, Facilitator
This selection explores the incarceration of the mentally ill. When Benjamin Gilmer joined a medical practice, he found that another, unrelated Dr. Gilmer had practiced there and was now serving a life sentence for the murder of his father. Benjamin began investigating Vince Gilmer’s life trying to reconcile the beloved doctor his patients remembered with the cold-blooded killer.
